Egypt is the First Country to Use Arabic Internet Domain Name '.Masr'
Immediately after the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) had approved a new multilingual address system (and the registration of Domain Names and websites in several languages other than the English language (as the Arabic, Korean, Chinese and Russian languages)), Egypt submitted a request to register International TLD (International Top Level Domain) '. Masr'.

NRA Websites: Benchmarking National Telecom Regulatory Authority Websites is the title of a report just published by LIRNE.NET. The report takes a detailed look at the state of regulatory authority websites in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and North America and identifies benchmarking indicators for evaluating them.

New telecom Licenses in gated compounds
The Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, NTRA, at its last meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. Tarek Kamel, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, has approved the announcement of granting two licenses to install and operate telecommunication networks in closed compounds.

Fourth Meeting of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
The fourth meeting of the Internet Governance Forum was held in Sharm El Sheikh, on 15-18 November 2009. It focused on the overall theme of ‘Internet Governance – Creating Opportunities for All’. With more than1800 participants from 112 countries the Sharm meeting had the biggest attendance so far. 96 governments were represented. 122 media representatives were accredited.

Sixth Annual Meeting for AREGNET
During the sixth annual meeting of the Arab Regulators Network (AREGNET) that was held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from 19 to 20 May, 2009, the presidency of AREGNET was transferred from the National Telecommunications Authority in Tunis to the National Regulatory Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
